Daughter of Capt. Nicholas Stillwell and Sarah Hand. Sophia married Richard Somers (1737-1793) in 1761. They had 8 children: Sophia; Constant; Jane; Constance; Edward; James; Sarah; and Richard between 1766 and 1778. (Their youngest child, Richard, became a heroic figure as a Master Commandant USN, dying in Tripoli in 1804.
