He was born December 31, 1927, in Gilbert, Ark., to Euel and Elva Akins. Elbert attended Arizona State University for two years majoring in Business Administration - then drafted into the service. He was a Superintendent of Purchasing for an Aerospace firm for 30 years.
Elbert served in the US Army - 1950 as Master Sargent to the Adj. General Corps in Korea. He enjoyed golfing, playing on league baseball, softball and college tract teams.
Elbert is survived by his wife, Wilma M. Akins; daughters, Aileen Merling of Vista, Claire Penton of San Diego and Jenny Akins of Fallbrook; granddaughter, Rachel Penton of Vista; great-granddaughter, Sydney Sijan of La Costa; granddaughter, Beth Merling of Vista; and grandson, Brad Merling of Phoenix.
A memorial service will be held at 1pm Wednesday, December 31 at Berry-Bell & Hall Mortuary 333 North Vine, Fallbrook, CA. A burial will follow at 2pm at Fallbrook Masonic Cemetery 1177 Santa Margarita Dr. in Fallbrook. Published in North County Times on December 30, 2008
