Prof. Abernethy Dies at Okolona
Funeral services for Thomas Franklin Abernethy, father of H B Abernethy of Houston, and Congressman Thomas G Abernethy of Okolona were conducted Friday at Eupora.
Mr. Abernethy, a retired school superintendent and salesman, died at 3:30 pm, Thursday, Nov. 9, at Okolona Community Hospital where he became a patient Wednesday. He was 95.
He taught school at Houston, Eupora and in Carroll county. He was a member of the Eupora Methodist Church.
Born in the Redland community of Pontotoc county, Mr. Abernethy attended school at Troy and at the old Mississippi Normal College in Houston. He had resided in Eupora since 1899, but had resided in the Shearer-Richardson Nursing Home at Okolona since March, 1965. His wife, the former Miss Minnie Agnes Jinkins, died in 1956.
Besides his two sons, a daughter, Miss Bessie Abernethy of Okolona, and six grandchildren.
