Note: In the 1940 Census, she is listed as Tillie E Ketchem. She must have been called "Tillie" as a child, although in her adult life, she went by Evelyn. Also, her birth record names her Tilda Evelyn Ketchem instead of Matilda Evelyn Ketchem due to some spelling error as her name was Matilda Evelyn.

She married James Wallace Grubbs on January 15, 1950 in Muncie, Indiana.

“To My Great-Grandma”
By: Seth Hamm

Your cornflower blue eyes
Seem to pierce into my heart
With the loving arrow
Of your own soul.

Your smiling face,
Although still and inanimate,
Watches over me day by day,
Forever keeping a heedful eye on me.

Your weathered hands
Told of the many works they had done,
Gardening yearly and cooking often,
And seemed to never quit.

Your tender care,
Never with complaining,
Yet always went on
To make others happy.

Your knowledge
Is something that amazes me,
You knew how to cook even the hardest of dishes
And always did so the most perfect way.

Your memories
Are something that I will cherish forever.
You have made many precious moments, Grandma,
and you will never fade away.
