Theodore served in the US Army and was killed in April, 1846, in the war with Mexico. The remaining four sons – David Dixon, Hambleton, Henry Ogden (1823-1872), and William David – served as officers in the US Navy. David Dixon became the second person promoted to the rank of Admiral, following the death of his foster brother David Glasgow Farragut, and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
