Josh "McLovin" Edward Schafer, 27, a resident of Bettendorf, died on Thursday, April 26, 2012, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport.
Visitation is Monday from 4 until 7 p.m.
He will be laid to rest at Oakdale Memorial Gardens on Eastern Avenue, Davenport.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a memorial fund established for his children.
Josh was born in Rock Island in 1984, the son of Laura Ludin. He graduated from DeWitt High School in 2003. He was united in marriage to Melissa Betts in Bettendorf on July 18, 2009. Josh was employed as an assistant manager at Hy-Vee Foods. He loved fishing, growing reef coral, and watching the Cubs and Hawkeyes. Josh also enjoyed spending time with his children, family and friends.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Melissa; his son, Mason; his daughter, Kirstyn; his mother, Laura Ludin; grandparents, Harry and Suzanne Schafer; two aunts, one uncle and 11 cousins.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Artie Casady.
