SUDDEN DEATH OF ED STEELE
DIED SATURDAY MORNING AT HIS HOME EAST OF THE CITY.
Was Apparently in His Usual Health Upon Retiring.
This community was shocked Saturday morning to learn that Ed Steele, one of our most highly respected citizens, had died that morning. When Mr. Steele retired Friday night he was apparently in his usual good health. Mrs. Steel was awakened about 4 o'clock Saturday morning and noted that her husband was breathing heavily. Her efforts to arouse him were futile and medical aid was immediately sent for. Mr. Steele breathed his last, however, ere the physician arrived. Apoplexy was the cause of death.

Thus so untimely came the end of the earthly existence of one of this county's best citizens.

The funeral was held from the residence on Monday afternoon and was attended by many friends who sought to be present when the last sad rites were bestowed over the body of one whom they had loved and respected in life.

It was a long procession that wended its way to Steele cemetery where the remains were interred.

During the funeral service Rev. Alexander said in Part: Edwin Ferris Steele was born in Hanover, Luzern county, Pa., September 5, 1857, and came to Falls City, Neb., when 12 years old. During the subsequent year he has been a citizen of this community. Here he had lived since his early boyhood, here he grew to manhood, here he transacted the business of his life, here he married Mamie Abbey who, dying , left to his care two motherless, helpless children. He again married to Catherine Diven, who survives him and here he suddenly and almost without warning passed away from all things earthly at an early hour Saturday morning.

When a young man he entered the State university, and having pursued his studies for some time he was called by the exigencies of business, before he had completed his course, to take charge of the farm, where he spent the remainder of his life.

Mr. Steele is spoken of by his friends and neighbors as an honorable, upright and intelligent citizen, as kind thoughtful, considerate and just in all his relations to and dealings with men.

Being of a retiring nature and reticent disposition, men did not readily form intimate acquaintance with him, but those who knew him best found him a man of sterling character, noble impulses and of strong mind. His friends were only limited by the circle of his acquaintance, and the entire community is afflicted by his death.

His widow and his two children are supported and comforted in the loss they have sustained by the deep sympathy of many people; and his sisters and brothers are thoughtfully and prayerfully remembered by us all. We can best say: "Sleep thou in peace till the morning come."
