During her time at the University of Louisville, she appeared regularly on WHAS radio. She was the recipient of a bachelor's degree from the University of Louisville, as well as a master's degree from Marshall University.
Helen traveled extensively during her days as a music teacher at Russell High School. She was privileged to lead one of the first choral music groups to attend and perform at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom upon its opening in 1970. She also led several tours of Europe, traveling to many countries with numerous students.
Helen was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Ashland, where she was chairman of the music committee, a member of the chancel choir, Rebekah Circle of United Methodist Women, and Ambassador's Sunday school class, and a former member of the Administrative Board of United Methodist Church. She was an active member of the Three Arts Club of Ashland and Kentucky Retired Teachers Association.
