Jessie Lee Read Taylor (1917 - 2012)

A national treasure, Jessie Lee Read Taylor, early on this President's Day, Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, departed our earthly dimension to the next dimension of the hereafter. As she so deserved, she left happy and peacefully, with a smile, surrounded by loved ones, to meet our Lord and the loved ones gone before, where she will dwell forever. Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday at White's Funeral Home in Springtown. Interment will follow in Annis Chapel Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at White's Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jessie's name to Straydog, Inc., P.O. Box 1465, Gun Barrel City, Texas 75147, www.straydog.org.

Jessie was born in Paradise on July 4, 1917. She was the eldest and only surviving child of six born to John and Jane Read. The Reads are direct descendants of the pioneers who settled Paradise in the 1850s. Ms. Taylor, who always preferred and went by her first name Jessie, had a varied, and rewarding professional life which she blended with her various passions and hobbies. Jessie was a respected insurance sales executive, a waitress, and a landlord during her life. She was also a published poetess, photographer, seamstress, doll and stamp collector, gardener, amateur geologist, patriot, mother, wife and friend. Jessie was a member of the Ridglea Chapter of the Eastern Star, past member of the International Society of Poets, and active with the Poets of Tarrant County. The family would like to thank Baylor Elder Health Care and related organizations for the loving care, guidance and treatment they provided to Jessie. Family was Jessie's first passion. She had two daughters, seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Jessie was also close to her 15 nieces and nephews, and many great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews.

Survivors: Jessie survives in the memory of her loving family and the infinite number of individuals lucky enough to be her "extended family."
