Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Color Sergeant in the Union Army. He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a Private in Company K, 31st Ohio Infantry for action on November 25, 1863 at Missionary Ridge, Tennessee. His citation reads "After two color bearers had fallen, seized the flag and carried it forward, assisting in the capture of the battery. Shortly thereafter he captured the flag of the 41st Alabama and the color bearer."
