Kennth J. Smith, 69, Kearney, died September 21, 1995, at the home. He was born November 12, 1925, in Holt, the son of Jehu and Clay Deen (O'Dell) Smith. Mr. Smith was a truck driver for 30 years for Kaw Transport. He was a member of the Excelsior Springs American Legion Post 1000. He was an Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Brooksie Dean Duncan. Survivors include his wife, Bertha Smith of the home; two sons, Dale Smith, Rayville, and Roger Smith, Excelsior Springs; a daughter, Sharon Hobbs, Independence; six stepsons, Wayne Hoover, Holt, Gerald Hoover, Kearney, Leslie Adams, Moberly, Earl Ray Adams Jr., Excelsior Springs, Phillip Adams, Orrick, and Adam C. Adams, Mosby; three stepdaughters, Audrey Squire, Vibbard Brenda McCormick, Wichita, and Mary Creel, Excelsior Springs; five granchildren, one great-grandchild, 29 stepgrandchildrren and five stepgreat-grandchildren. Services were held today at the Fry Chapel, Kearney; burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Kearney. The family suggests contributions to the Hospice of the Northland.
