Joseph L. Coe, 64, of West Brooks Street, died late Tuesday morning following an operation in St. Mary hospital about 24 hours before.
He was born in Peoria, January 8, 1879 and was brought to live in Galesburg as a young child. He started with the Burlington Northern Railroad as a brakeman in 1890, but following an accident in 1900, he became an airbrake mechanic in the local shops until retiring in 1939.
He married first, Miss Clara Huston. She died on 1906. He then Married Miss Elinor Parkinson May 28, 1909 in Adair, Iowa.
Surviving are his wife, a son, Joseph J. Coe, a daughter, Mrs. Dorris Coe-Ferris, one sister, Mrs. LuLu Ewing, 3 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
He was a regular attendant of the First Baptist Church and the Sunday School.
Funeral friday afternoon at 3 p.m. in Kimber and West Mortuary with the Reverend R.C. Johnson officiating. Visitation thursday afternoon at the chapel. Burial in Linwood Cemetery.
