According to her Death Certificate, Fanny was a school teacher, a widow and living at 1915 Blakemore Street, Nashville when she died of TB at Vanderbilt Hospital on November 9, 1936. Burial was two days later in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Suggested edit: The daughter of Swiss immigrants and a one-time native of Zurich. Fanny Ritter was an amazing scholar. She met her husband Adolph while living in Peru. Fanny helped him as a most-able South American guide and linguistic counselor. She was fluent in German, French, Spanish, Italian, and English. She also had learned to speak several dialects of the native Indians of South America. Fanny shared in her husband's research and field study.
