U.S. Congressman. He was a successful sales merchant and served as Mayor of La Fayette, Indiana, from 1904 to 1913 and 1917 to 1925. In 1933, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-third Congress, serving until 1935. An unsuccessful candidate for re-election, he resumed mercantile pursuits and was appointed to the Indiana Public Service Commission in 1941.
