Bos'n Mate US Navy World War I

According to Grandaunt Viola (Harry's little sister), Harry was a World War I (Purple Heart) disabled veteran. He was hit with shrapnel in the base of his brain during the war, but survived. He also was in a car accident once where his car fell off a 92' embankment and he walked away from the accident! He always said that he would probably die from slipping on a banana peel. Later in life, he was in a VA hospital and had asked the nurses to change his bedpan and, when they didn't do it, he tried to climb out of bed and do it himself. He climbed over the railing of the bed, fell to the floor, broke his hip and died of complications from pneumonia that resulted from that fall.

Murray "Chip" Julian (Harry's nephew) recalls that Harry was a submariner during World War I and had gotten shot up and "gassed" with suplhur gas, though Chip couldn't remember the specifics. He did confirm that Harry had steel plates in his head from his wound.

Rest in Peace Harry
