Faithful Missionary Gone To The Lord
An overflow crowd attended the funeral for Guy V. Caskey Saturday morning March 15, 2003. His son, David Caskey of the Bahamas mission field, conducted a brief but meaningful service. Eldred Echols who was his roommate in college, and a life long friend and veteran missionary read two tributes. The first one follows. "When God's mighty winds of change swept over the world during the first six decades of the 20th century, they bore on their edge God's gift of eloquence to Guy Caskey which yielded the gold of the gospel to men's hearts from South to East Africa and back to the Americas and the isles of the sea. Guy not only preached the Word, he became Mr. Mission through his published sermons and lessons. As long as men speak of missions around the world, Guy Caskey's name will never be far from their lips." The second tribute read by Eldred was from Jamaica was as follows. "The church in Jamaica grieves the passing of Guy Caskey. He was truly one of the most outstanding preachers of the last 100 years in the church of Christ. We are pleased that we made him realize our gratitude and how much we thought of him before he died. The Student Center at the Jamaica School of Preaching was dedicated to and named after Guy and Jessie Lee Caskey."

BIRTH, EDUCATION, PREACHING, TEACHING, AND PUBLISHING

Guy Caskey was born in Grapeland, Texas where he graduated as valedictorian of his High School. He received additional education at Freed-Hardeman College, Robert E. Lee College and Abilene Christian University. He preached for 69 of his 85 years in Highland, Dalhart, Pampa, Sweetwater, Ft. Worth and Arlington, Texas. He did mission work in Africa and Jamaica where he served as Director of Schools of Biblical Studies. He began congregations in several African countries and his travel and speaking carried him into more than 50 countries. He appeared on Lecture Programs at many Universities and in Mission areas and received Honors from Abilene Christian University, Caribbean Christian College and others. Over forty years ago he saw the need to write and produce materials in English and native languages to use in teaching throughout the world. Most men can read, but many have little reading material. In the early 1980's this dream became a reality with the establishment of Mission Printing. Hundreds of retired volunteers print and ship millions of pieces of literature and Bibles to countries around the world free of charge. The 8800 square foot building that houses this state of the art program is named after Guy and Jessie Lee Caskey. He is the author of many books and booklets (more than 100 titles). He served as the Director of Mission Printing until his health forced retirement. Jessie Lee at age 83 daily joins the dedicated group of hundreds of volunteers at the building. There is no interruption in the work or the resolve to carry the Gospel to the ends of the earth.

THE SURVIVING FAMILY

He is survived by his wife of 65 years; a son who is a missionary in the Bahamas; a daughter in Houston, Texas; two married foster daughters; and a married foster son; three married grandsons; one married granddaughter; one sister who lives in Baytown, Texas; three great grandsons; and a great granddaughter soon to be born (or already born). He has touched the lives and will be remembered by friends from around the world.

PERSONAL MATTERS

I first met Guy Caskey at the 1974 Caribbean Lectureship in Trinidad at the Hilton Hotel. It was very impressive to meet this great preacher of the Gospel who authored several books that all of the students at Caribbean Christian College would purchase for their private library. I remember vividly at the Trinidad lectureship when he got up a d put a halt to racist provocation at the lectureship of the black and white churches in the United States. After this sharp contention resolution, there was never the problem of racist contentions again at the Caribbean Lectureships. Guy Caskey was effective on the mission field in the Caribbean. He was an aggressive promoter for the Caribbean Lectureship. Many lost souls in the Caribbean were saved by either his preaching of the Gospel, or his books or tracts. After I moved to Texas, I would often visit Guy at the Mission Printing in Arlington, since my school, the University of Texas was just a few blocks away. I made sure to leave a donation to help with the printing of gospel materials for churches across the United States and around the world. Under the direction of Guy Caskey, every debatable topic for discussion in the Lord's church is in written form at the Mission printing for distribution to any congregations in the world. The tenacity of the volunteer works at the Mission Printing is commendable. Each worker has his or her duty to reproduce gospel literatures. Contribution to the Mission Printing is very much appreciated to help cover printing and supply cost. I am glad that every congregation in the Caribbean has received materials form the Mission Printing. It is my plea to all the Caribbean congregations to exemplify your appreciation for Guy Caskey and the Mission Printing by personally sending a donation of $100.00 or more to the Mission Printing in his memory. Believe me, it would be a great help in printing gospel literature for the world. Guy autographed two of his books "Historical Periods of The Bible" and "Except Ye Be Converted" and personally gave them to me in 1986. These two books would help any young preacher to adhere to the doctrine of the New Testament and resist any type of modern liberalism confronting the Lord's church today. These books can be ordered directly from Mission Printing. A legend in the church has gone on to be with the Lord. Guy Caskey will be missed. Send your memorial donation to: Mission Printing, P. 0.
