Duchess of Bedford

Daughter of Charles Stanhope, 3rd Earl of Harrington, and Jane Fleming. Paternal granddaughter of William Stanhope, 2nd Earl of Harrington, and Lady Caroline FitzRoy. Maternal granddaughter of Sir John Fleming, 1st and last Baronet, and Jane Coleman.

Anna was a direct descendant of King Charles II through her paternal grandmother.

She was a lifelong friend of Queen Victoria, whom she served as Lady of the Bedchamber, and was also credited as the originator of the Afternoon Tea.

Married to Francis Russell in 1808, she became duchess when he inherited the title in 1839. One son was born to the marriage, and William became duke on the death of his father.

She is buried in the Bedford Chapel of the parish Church of St. Michael, Chenies.
