DAVENPORT — Charles W. "Chuck" Farnham, 77, of Davenport, died Thursday, November 6, 2008, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. It was Chuck's wish to be an organ donor, including his eye tissue, which supports the mission of the Lions Club that meant so much to him.
A memorial gathering for Chuck's family and friends will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge, Davenport. At 3 p.m., there will be an informal sharing of memories and stories celebrating Chuck's life. Private family inurnment will take place at Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the Host Lions Club, Davenport.
Chuck was born in 1931 in Audubon, Iowa, to Harold and Mildred Farnham. He married Wanita Edwards in 1954. After earning his Master's Degree in Hydraulic Engineering from Iowa State University, Ames, in 1965, Chuck and his family moved to the Quad Cities, where he worked as a civil engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District. He married Pat Stanley in Bettendorf on May 13, 1978. After 30 years, he retired from the Corps in 1991. Chuck was very active in the Lions Club and also enjoyed woodworking, playing golf, and, in his younger years, building model airplanes.
Survivors include his wife, Pat; daughter, Kathryn Sampson, of DeWitt, Iowa; sons, Steven (Kathy) Farnham, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Vince Farnham and Jim (Linda) Piper, all of Davenport; grandchildren, Jennifer Sampson, Eric, Audrey, and Matthew Farnham, and Zachary Farnham; nieces, Sandy and Patty; and a nephew, Bruce. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Bonnie, and his brother, Marvin.
