Marjorie was the daughter of Jeanette "Nettie" Spencer and Ernest Bonner Compton. She was 39 years old and a resident of Little Rock, and he was 49 years old and a resident of Little Rock when Marjorie married the former governor of Arkansas, Carl Edward Bailey. They were married in Little Rock on 27 Oct 1943 by Rev. Travis A. White, Jr., Pastor of First Christian Church in Little Rock.

Carl Edward Bailey was by that time back in private practice as an attorney at law with offices at 301 Union Life Building in Little Rock, and he was the founder of The Carl Bailey Company, an International Harvester agricultural equipment franchise.

His first wife, the former Margaret L. Bristol petitioned for divorce on the grounds of general indignities in Pulaski County on 16 Apr 1942.

At the time of her death, Marjorie was employed on the secretarial staff of the US District Attorney's office in Little Rock.

Her brother, Dr. John Nye Compton was the informant on her death certificate.
