"Maria Ellen was the daughter of James and Maria Fooks. She was born March 9, 1839 in Pittsville, Wicomico County, Maryland and she died November 1, 1905 in Edge View Farm, Delmar, Wicomico County, Maryland.

Maria and Elijah Freeney had as children:
John Minos Freeney (3 Nov 1861 - 7 Jul 1862)
2 - Rose Lee Freeney (25 May 1863 - 26 Sep 1930)
3 - Matilda M. Freeney (4 Oct 1864 - 26 Jul 1940)
4 - Mary Elizabeth Freeney (28 Aug 1866)
5 - James William Freeney (29 Nov - 1952)
6 - Henry Benjamin Freeney (27 Jul 1870 - 28 Dec 1924)
7 - Thomas Albert Freney (13 Sep 1874 - 29 Oct 1874)
9 - Elijah Edwin Freeney (21 Mar 1876-6 Jun 1932)

The funeral of Mrs. Maria Ellen Freeny took place Sunday afternoon at her late home near Delmar, and was largely attended by friends and relatives from Wicomico and Sussex counties. Beautiful remarks were made by Rev. Z. H. Webster, Pastor of Delmar M. E. Church, and the church choir rendered music at the house and at the grave, singing favorite hymns of the deceased. The remains were laid away in the family burying grounds on the farm.
The pallbearers were sons and son-in-laws of the deceased: Harry B. Freeny, Wm. Freeny, Edward Freeny, Harry Hickey,J. G. W. Perdue and Harold Fooks.
Deceased was the daughter of the late Minor Fooks of Pittsville, and was in the 63rd year of age. She had been a member of the M. E. Church for many years.
Surviving her are one brother, Mr. Harry Fooks of Jersey City, and Three sisters, Mrs. S. T. Williams and Mrs. Etta Fooks of Salisbury; and Mrs. Sallie Gordy of Delmar.
She also leaves six children in bereavement; Misses Rosa and Matilda Freeny and Mrs. Harry Hickey of Delmar; Messrs E. E. Freeny, Wm. Freeny of Delmar; Mr. Harry B. Freeny of Salisbury.
All of the children were with her at her death.
Mrs. Freeny was a most estimable lady and her death is mouned by a large circle of friends."
