Eleanor M. (Ayres) Temple was born on 12 Jul 1906 in Penn Yan, Yates Co., NY, to DeWitt and Minnie Lake Ayers. She graduated from Oberlin College in 1928. In 1930 she married Carmen H. Edwards with whom she had two children, Robert A. and David A.

In 1940, Carmen, Eleanor, Robert and David were living in Massillon, Perry Township, Stark Co., OH. Carmen's occupation was chemist for a steam railway. They had been residing in Cleveland, OH, in 1935.

Carmen took a job with the Hammermill Paper Company in Lock Haven, PA, ca 1948, and was superintendant of wastes and bacteriological control. Carmen was murdered by a disgruntled employee at the mill, leaving his widow and two sone (see: Sarvey, Don, 2011. Day of Rage: Model Citizen Turns Cold-Blooded Killer in a Pennsylvania Small Town. Stackpole Books, Mechanicsburg, PA). He was interred in Maple Grove Cemetery, Findlay Township, Hancock Co., OH, with his parents

Eleanore subsequently married B. Howard Temple who survived her. She was also survived by her son David, his four children, and one granddaughter.

She was active in a number of organizations, including the Penn Yan United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Keuka Park GardenClub, the Penn Yanb Manor Friends, the WCTU and was former membership chairman of the Yates County Historical Society. She was also a patron and former member of the Finger Lakes Symphony Orchestra.
