Glen Roscoe Blount, 79, of Cabot died Tuesday, August 2, 2011. He was born October 9, 1931 in Floral to the late Shelby and Alice Summers Blount. Mr. Blount served his country in the U.S. Navy and was an air traffic controller aboard the USS Essex during the Korean Conflict. After his military service, he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Arkansas and a Masters Degree in Sanitary Engineering while attending school in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Mr. Blount, along with J. C. George invented and patented the laser used in construction and started the AGL Corporation in Jacksonville. With his wife, Louise, he started building homes in Cabot and established Glenwood Estates and Crestwood and was active in the business until December 2009. Mr. Blount was a member of the Cabot United Methodist Church and was a Mason. One of his personal passions was being involved in his granddaughter's lives. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Blount McKinnon as well as his sister, Christine Fraser and brothers, Harold and Coy Blount. .
Mr. Blount is survived by his wife Louise Martin Blount of Cabot, his son, Greg Blount of Floral, a son-in-law, Ray McKinnon of Little Rock, his grandchildren's mother, Sandra Blount of Little Rock as well as his brother, Clive Blount and his wife Carol of Floral and his granddaughters, Skylar and Krista Blount and Nikki May. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Brenda Bailey of Cabot, Sandra Marbaise of Little Rock, Doloris Hook of Floral, Carma Davis of Harrison, Erma Carrington of Batesville, Betty Vanzin of Florida, Jimmy Fraser and David and Allen Johnston, all of Floral, along with many friends.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2011 at the Cabot United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Floral. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Moore's Cabot Funeral Home (501)843-5816. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cabot United Methodist Church; 2003 S. Pine St.; Cabot, AR 72023 or the Open Arms Shelter; 1500 Navajo Trail; Lonoke, AR 72086-8003.
