Eugenia A. Gillick Carter, (April 20, 1933 - July 18, 2011), long-time resident of San Mateo, affectionately known as Babo, passed away at the age of 78. Preceded in death by loving husband, Perry W. Carter.
Survived by her brother, William Gillick (Karen), niece Kristin Tangen (Brad), nephew Bill Gillick (DeAnne), 2 daughters, Janet Carter and Kathleen Carter Harkins (John) and one son, Perry Carter (Meronig), and 5 grandchildren, Patrick and Ryan Harkins, Perry and Camille Carter, and Lauren Gundersen.
Upon graduating from Presentation High School in San Francisco, Gene completed her degree and credential in English and Education from San Francisco State University.
Gene spent many years in elementary education teaching in both San Francisco and San Mateo, retiring in 1996 from St. Timothy School.
She was an avid reader, and loved to garden. She loved having the entire family around for family dinners. Camping in Tahoe was a favorite summer activity. She especially adored watching her children and grandchildren growing up and participating in their various activities.
Friends may visit from 6 - 7 p.m. and are invited to attend a Vigil Service all at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 1515 Dolan Avenue in San Mateo on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and the Funeral Mass will be held at St. Timothy Catholic Church on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow immediately at St. Timothy's gym across the street. Private Committal Service.
