White was of Jefferson County Mississippi a member of Darden's Battery, CSA. The almost twenty two year old soldier died one month after being wounded at the Battle of Nashville, Dec 15, 1864. Turpin's family had him buried apart from the other soldiers and his mother Laura erected a marker to her son. It features an "empty chair" the title of a popular song dealing with the loss of young men in battle.
