Harold attended from Battle Creek Central High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He returned to Battle Creek and worked as a union journeyman electrician for Local 445 for 50 years.
In 1953 Harold married Ellen Lute. They moved to their rural Bellevue farm where he enjoyed raising beef cattle, gardening, tractors, farm equipment, his motorcycle and retirement. He enjoyed the many visits from his great grandchildren.
Harold is survived by his wife, Ellen Mayes of Bellevue; daughter, April (Michael) Olney of Bellevue; son, Raymond (Valerie) Mayes of Battle Creek; four grandchildren, Joe, Daneil, Jared and Bryan; two great grandchildren; brothers, Lloyd Mayes of Carson City, Martin (Glenis) Mayes of Middleton, Delbert (Francis) Mayes of Whitmore Lake; sisters, Jean Mayes and Marie Mayes, both of Lansing and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother; parents; sister, Hazel Mayes; brothers, Wendell Mayes and Lloyd Mayes.
Funeral was at New Life Church and Ministries Saturday, with Pastor Dan Osborn officiating.
