DAVENPORT — Allen G. Ahrens, 83, of Davenport, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2011, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2011, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 4929 Wisconsin Avenue in Davenport. Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Runge Mortuary and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday at the church. Burial with military honors will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences may be made at www.rungemortuary.com.
Allen was born January 17, 1928, in Tipton, Iowa, the son of Louis and Wilhelmina (Moeller) Ahrens. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On March 28, 1966, he married Socora M. Castel in Bettendorf. She preceded him in death on June 11, 2010.
Mr. Ahrens was a machine operator for Caterpillar prior to his retirement.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. His hobbies included carpentry, dancing, fishing, cooking and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Paula Ahrens of Marshalltown, Iowa; sister, Florence ("Boots") Castel of East Moline; grandchildren, Casey Wolf, Kipp Ray, Kaley, Allen, and Austin Dunnick, Samantha Daniel, Kristy Daniel, Jaylin Daniel and Katelyn Ahrens.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.
