John Nathan Mitchem, Jr., was one of four children [born] to the late John, Sr., and Eulalia Mitchem whom he loved and missed dearly. John was raised in the Harrisburg area and attended John Harris High School, graduating in 1963.
He was a SP4 U.S. Army, Vietnam War Veteran and continued serving his country in the U.S. Air Force with over 22 years of dedicated service [TSgt, retired] . John was in receipt of various awards and commendations during his tour of service...
In 1973 John found his lifetime companion, Yvonne, and they recently celebrated their 28th year of marriage. Through this union they reared 6 children and 15 grandchildren.
John was baptized at Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church and served for more than 40 years with dedication and pride. John was the church organist, Co-chair of the Bereavement Support Ministry, the Comfort Choir, a volunteer for the Office Support Ministry, a member of the Maestros, past member of Frontiers International, and enjoyed golfing, bowling and culinary arts.
John leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Yvonne; three sons; three daughters; two brothers; a sister; fifteen grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
