Ma Mary helped Pa Chat raise his sister and [four] brothers. Then God blessed them with twelve children of their own...
Please allow me to give you some history about Ma Mary. Some of us senior members of the family know more about the Frazier side of the family than we do about the Rhodes. Ma Mary was the oldest of 10 children. Her parents were John [B. (Burgess)] and Louvenia (Gaines) Frazier. Grandpa John was born a slave. He and his two brothers were separated when they were sold, one to a Goldlatch [Golatt: See memorial for Franklin Charles Shank], one to a Shank and Grandpa John to a Frazier family. Grandma Louvenia's family roots, it's said, was originally from the West Indies .
Many of Ma Mary's brothers and sisters were outstanding people in business, as mechanics and in work for the railroad. Also, some of her sisters were as pretty as Lena Horne ever was...
Now, to those of you who are hearing what is being said, do you realize how close we were to being slaves ourselves? But God has delivered our families out of a terrible bondage and given 'us' A FUTURE PLAN, one that can be much greater than what He has given to our beloved ancestors. But it's up to each one of us to choose and use His plan wisely."
