"We don't know much about Pa Chat's parents, Anna (Ware) and Vincent Rhodes, other than to say they were slaves until about 1865. And, because of the many hardships in a slave's life, they died young. [According to the June 15, 1880 Taliaferro County, Georgia census Grandpa Vince (a laborer) was age 25. Grandma Anna (a housekeeper)was age 22.*]
Pa Chat was born just seven years after slavery had ended. He was the oldest of six children. With the passing of his parents, the responsibility of raising his sister and brothers fell on his shoulders...
Being a smart young man, Pa Chat asked God for help as he worked hard to provide for and save his brothers and sister. God blessed and gave Pa Chat A FUTURE PLAN.
Within that plan God included Ma Mary...on October 8, 1905 they were married. Ma Mary helped Pa Chat raise his sister and brothers. Then God blessed them with twelve children of their own...
Now, to those of you who are hearing what is being said, do you realize how close we were to being slaves ourselves? But God has delivered our families out of a terrible bondage and given 'us' A FUTURE PLAN, one that can be much greater than what He has given to our beloved ancestors. But it's up to each of us to choose and use His plan wisely."

by Minister William Howard Edwards, The Rhodes' and Frazier Family Reunion, Aug. 16-17, 1996

*Memo for Record: On the 1880 census there's also a listing of the Webster Ware family. Researching the possible relationship to Grandma Anna.
