College and professional basketball player. A Brooklyn, New York native and was born to Panamanian immigrants. He played basketball for the Wolfpack of North Carolina State University from 1981 to 1985, coached by the late Jim Valvano. He was drafted into the NBA by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2nd round (41st overall pick).
He is most well known as a member of NC State during the 1983 NCAA tournament run which defeated heavily-favored University of Houston in the championship game. He scored the game winning basket at the buzzer after catching a missed shot, which was short of the basket, and dunked it in, just before time expired, thus securing the championship. His number was honored by North Carolina State University in 2008, 25 years after the championship game-winning dunk.
He died in a bus crash in 2011, while at the controls of an Elite Coach rental bus, with no passengers aboard.
