Friends of LaToya McGraw, a 24-year-old South Side hairdresser, hoped she had somehow escaped the pandemonium.

Her cousin, Renada McGraw, 23, said LaToya has a 6-year-old daughter, Shapara, and was three months' pregnant.

"She went to the nightclub on the spur of the moment," Renada McGraw said Monday. "We didn't know what had happened until we received a phone call from someone at the club."

LaToya McGraw had been on the dance floor at the club with Marian Robertson, 25, when the fight broke out nearby.

In the panic, the two were separated.

Robertson went home and turned on the news at 6 a.m. and saw an image of her friend being put into an ambulance and panicked. She found out a short time later that she had died.

McGraw's friend called her around 2:45 a.m. saying LaTorya "stopped breathing, she was on her way to the hospital. . . . She was dead before the ambulance got there," Hicks said. While still in the club, the friend relayed to Hicks, "some boy picked her up and tried to get her down the stairs to the door, but it took him 20 minutes to get to the front door.
