Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. Served during the Civil War as Lieutenant Colonel and commander of the 38th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He died in New Albany, Indiana in February 1865, and was posthumously brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on March 13, 1865 for "gallant and meritorious service during the war".
