Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Private in the Union Army in Company H, 11th Ohio Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action at Missionary Ridge, Tennessee on November 25, 1863. His citation reads "Scaled the enemy's works and in a hand-to-hand fight helped capture the flag of the 18th Alabama Infantry (C.S.A.)."
