Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Private in the US Army in Company I, 11th New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action at Petersburg, Virginia on June 17, 1864. His citation reads "With two companions, he rushed and disarmed 27 enemy pickets, capturing a strand of flags."
