Martha Jean Petty, 70, of Kansas City, MO, died Friday, September 22, 2000, at Liberty Hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, September 25, at the Church-Archer-Pasley Chapel, Liberty, MO; burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kearney, MO. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society for Designated Research into Alternative Therapy.
Mrs. Petty was born February 23, 1930, in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Orin Russell and Anna Josephine Coy Hightower. She was reared in Kirkwood, MO, and had lived in Clay County for 48 years. Mrs. Petty graduated from William Jewell College in 1952, and received her master of arts degree in sociology from University of Missouri at Kansas City in 1981. Mrs. Petty was a former 4-H leader, a member of the Board of Directors of the Clay County Farm Bureau and an American Royal volunteer. She was a former Realtor with Coldwell Banker. She was a member of the Metro Christian Fellowship Church of Grandview, and at the time of her death was involved in researching "Kansas City Church History."
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Russell Hightower. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Glenn D. Petty, of the home; four sons, Brian S. Petty, Smithville, MO, Arthur R. Petty, Syracuse, MO, Russell H. Petty, Excelsior Springs, MO, and John S. Petty, Smithville, MO; and 12 grandchildren.
