CSA Congressman. He was born in Savannah, Georgia, in 1831 or 1832, but nothing is known about his early life. He moved to the State of Tennessee at some point and later entered public service and served as Postmaster for the United States House of Representatives from 1857 to 1859. He then served during the Civil War as an Assistant Quartermaster in the Confederate States Army and was later promoted to the rank of Colonel. He had also served as a Major. During the Civil War, he had served on the staff of such Confederate Generals as George Washington Gordon, William Brimage Bate, Preston Smith, and Alfred Johnson Vaughan. He left the Confederate States Army in 1864. He then was elected as a Confederate States Congressman to represent the State of Tennessee in the Second Confederate Congress from 1864 to 1865. Following the Civil War, he relocated to the State of Kentucky. On February 2, 1870, he married Marieh B. Jacobs in Louisville, Kentucky, but they had no children. He died at the young age of only 41 or 42, in Louisville, Kentucky, on January 13, 1873, and was buried in the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
