U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Yale College in 1783, studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Schaghticoke, Rensselaer County, New York. Entering politics, he was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1792, 1800-01, served as supervisor of Schaghticoke in 1796, justice of the peace in Rensselaer County (1801-05), trustee of Lansingburgh Academy and school commissioner of Schaghticoke. In 1805, he was elected as a Republican to the Ninth and Tenth Congresses, serving until 1809. After leaving Congress, he was founder of the Schaghticoke Powder Company and judge of the court of common pleas of Rensselaer County, until his death.
