He was one of five soldiers who perished when their UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter crashed in the mountains in Honduras while on a training mission. Bryan, the youngest of four children, was born on Dec. 8, 1980, at Wurtsmith Air Force Base, Mich., to SMSgt. Peter (retired Air Force) and Diane (Richards) Abercrombie. Bryan graduated from Clearfield High School, Utah, in 1998, and commanded the Junior ROTC Detachment during his senior year. Bryan attended Weber State University for one year where he was active in the Army ROTC program. Wanting to fly in helicopters, Bryan enlisted in the Army in May, 1999, and became a Blackhawk crew chief. He served for two years at Fort Hood, Texas, and then was assigned to Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras, arriving on Sept. 11, 2001. Completing his initial one-year tour, Bryan extended his assignment at Soto Cano Air Force Base for an additional year. Interment Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Bryan Abercrombie Scholarship Fund, America First Credit Union, P.O. Box 9199, Ogden, Utah, 84409-0199. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a Clearfield High School Junior ROTC student pursuing a career in the military.
