Businessman. He was the founder of the Champion Spark Plug Company. In 1910 he moved his struggling spark plug business from Boston, Massachusetts to Toledo, Ohio. Champion Spark Plug later went on to become a multi-million dollar company. He is also credited with adopting the "red bow tie" symbol of Champion Spark Plug that is still recognized today.
