Lloyd was named after a Welsh admirer of his mothers, John Lloyd, whom she knew at the Austin mining camp in NV. He went to school in England when he was 15. He attended the University of Edinburgh where he studied civil engineering. Lloyd went on to become a writer with the influence of his step-father, Robert Louis Stevenson. He married Katharine Harwood "Kate" Durham on Apr 09, 1896 in Honolulu, HI. They then joined his mother and step-father in Samoa. He was U.S. vice council general at Samoa, service ending in 1897. His 2nd marriage was to Ethel Blanche Head on Dec 24, 1914 in London, England. See: Who Was Who in America Vol II pub. 1950 by The A.N. Marquis Co. for complete list of writings. During a rainy holiday in Scotland when Lloyd was twelve, he and RLS drew a map, which inspired Stevenson to write Treasure Island (1883). He dedicated the novel to his stepson. He and his stepfather, Robert Louis Stevenson, collaborated on The Wrong Box (1889) The Ebb-Tide, and The Wrecker. Although he continued to write fiction, Osbourne's work is largely unknown today.
