George W. Houx was born in Booneville, MO to William and Charlotte Jones Houx, very early settlers in Missouri. He married Fannie Price in 1850 in Johnson County, MO and they had 7 children; Wm. P, Frank Lee, Kate E. Gunter Luce, Anna Eliz. Gunter Branstetter, Oro S. Burgan, Carrie and George D. Houx. Frank Lee Houx moved on to Wyoming where he served as Sec. of State and Govenor. George and Fannie built a large brick home in Higginsville which stands today and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. George's obituraies reflect that he was much loved by all and referred to as "Uncle" by the neighbors. He served in the War Between the States in Co. D. 16th Missouri Reg.
