Gomez Arguelles, 81, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born to Mr. Matias Gomez and Guadalupe Arguelles in Matamoros, Tamaulipas. Alfonso loved his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He loved to travel, was a writer and poet and gave conferences with the Historical and Geological Association wherever he was.

He was preceded in death by his sister: Dolores Gomez Arguelles de Ruiz; first wife, Concepcion Viñals Garmendia; brother, Matias Gomez Arguelles.

He is survived by his second wife of 15 years of marriage, Yolanda Z. Gonzalez; daughter, Concepcion Gomez Viñals of Mexico City; sons, Alfonso Gomez Viñals (Laura De La Rosa) of Monterrey and Mauricio Gomez of Dallas; grandchildren, Mario, Mariana, Patricio, Carolina and Leonardo; sisters, Ofelia Gomez Dominguez, Alicia Gomez Garza and Beatriz Gomez Davila; numerous nieces and nephews.

Vistitation will be held from 10 am to 9 pm with a rosary to be recited at 7 pm on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista.

A Mass will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral with a committal service to follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
