Major League Baseball Player. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, he was a right handed pitcher making his debut for the Detroit Tigers on and played with the Tigers for fifteen seasons, (1912-26). Nicknamed 'Hooks' because of his hard-to-hit curveball, he ended his career with a pitching record of 223 wins, 182 loss, 245 complete games, 22 shutouts, 39 saves, 1201 strikeouts and a 3.30 earned run average. He was also considered a good hitting pitcher with 212 hits, 107 runs scored, 6 homeruns, 107 RBIs, and a .189 batting average. He died at age 73 in St. Louis, Missouri.
