Mass of Christian Burial for Maj. Harry F. Abbott USMC Ret., 93, Lawton, will be at 11:00 am Friday, April 8, at the Holy Family Catholic Church, with Rev. Philip Seeton, Pastor officiating. Rosary will be at 6:00 pm Thursday, April 7, at the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Mr. Jim Coe, Deacon of Holy Family Catholic Church, Lawton officiating.
Maj. Abbott died Wednesday in a Lawton retirement center.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Lawton with Military Honors under the direction of Becker Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Lawton.
He was born September 27, 1917 in Mountain Park, Oklahoma to Boyd and Ethel (King) Abbott. He grew up in Mountain Park were he graduated High School. He attended the University of Oklahoma until he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He was stationed around the world and served as a Pilot in WWII and the Korean War, flying B25 bombers, and earned many awards. He grew wheat and farmed cattle after his retirement from the service. He married Dorothy Culler in Edenton, North Carolina on June 3, 1944. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Lawton.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy Abbott of the home; 3 sons, Hank Abbott and wife Judie of Lawton, Christopher Abbott of Lawton and Robert Abbott of Spokane, WA; 3 daughters, Alicia Abbott of Lawton, Stephanie Abbott of Edgewater, FL, and Patricia Abbott of Magum, OK; a sister, Jane and husband Bill Williams of Edmond, OK; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and other family member and friends.
He was preceded in death by 3 sons, Paul Abbott, Randy Abbott and Bill Abbott; a granddaughter, Michelle Abbott; a brother, Jerry Abbott and a sister, Marguerite Roland.
