Pauline was born July 8, 1909 near Shumway in Effingham County, Illinois. She was the youngest of seven children of William Harvey and Alice Victoria (Gordon) Sparks. Pauline's parents were sharecroppers farming in southern Illinois, near Beecher City and later Todd's Point. Her father "Will" was killed in a farming accident June 15th, 1921 at Todd's Point, IL. She, her mother Alice and her sisters Reatha and Ruby moved into Bement, where Alice worked as a cook. Less than two years later Alice Victoria passed away as a result of influenza and Pneumonia complications. At that time Ruby (age 14) and Pauline (age 12) moved in with Reatha and her husband Curtis Knapp. Before moving to California to be married she worked for the Caldwell's Syrup of Pepsin Company in Monticello, IL. She married Francis Everett Sprague on June 24, 1931 in Los Angeles, CA, youngest of two children and son of Edwin Bruce and Maud Eva (Wells) Sprague. Pauline was a Homemaker, a mother, and for over twenty years she was an office manager for a major insurance company. She and her husband Francis Everett Sprague had two children, and lived in the Los Angeles area since their marriage in 1931.

Our time together was too short, but my memory is long. And til the day I die, I will always love and remember you. I will honor you and your memory. You mattered, thanks Mom.
