He was employed as a welder at the King Midas grain elevators, the Globe Shipyards and Lidgerwood-Mundy.
When he moved with his family to Babbitt, he continued his career at Reserve Mining Co. until retirement in 1986.
He was active in many sports throughout his life, playing for and managing several fast-pitch softball teams in the Twin Ports. He also coached Pony League football for a number of years in Babbitt.
In the late 1960s and early 1970s, he served on the Recreation Board in Babbitt, most recently as its director, and he served a term on the Babbitt City Council.
He will be remembered for his love and dedication to his family and friends, and for his ever-present humor. He showed us how to accept suffering and death with dignity. He will be missed by many.
He married Teresa Klejeski in 1944, and then in 1979 he married Barbara Neese
Leo is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Jan (John) Zavodnick; sons, Robert (Shari) Lien and Daryl (Sue) Lien; stepdaughters: Michal (Gerry) Unruh, Leslie (Troy) Hiatt, and Sandra (Brad) Rockman; brothers: Floyd (Marcie) Lien and James (Pat) Lien; eight grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and godchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Elizabeth (Kwapick) Lien; and a sister, Mae (Stanley) Berg.
Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
