James L. Berger, 83, died Feb. 13, 2011, at Medcenter One Mandan Living Center. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with the Rev. Nick Schneider officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a rosary/vigil service will begin at 7:30 p.m.

James was born Oct. 29, 1929, in Bismarck, the son of Marcus "Jim" and Mary "Marie" (Tibesar) Berger. He was raised and educated in Bismarck. James attended St. Mary's Grade School and graduated from St. Mary's High School. James learned the skill of welding and was a part of Berger's Welding Works with his father. He retired from welding at 65.

James enjoyed model airplanes and was a member of the Elks.

He is survived by his brothers, Robert J. (Marilyn) Berger and Richard J. (Jan) Berger, all of Bismarck; his sister, Mary Ann Bohrer, Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Marie Berger.
