Rev. Dan Voss Joiner, 88, of Griffin, passed away on Monday, June 14, 2010, at Sacred Journey Hospice.
Rev. Joiner was born in Millen, Ga., on Nov. 3, 1922, to the late Rube Joiner and the late Flossie Myrtle Voss Joiner. He was preceded in death by son, Ken Pullin. Rev. Joiner was a former pastor of the Northside Baptist Church in Tifton and Rehoboth Baptist Church in Shellman. He had served as interim pastor for several other churches before becoming the first paid chaplain for the state of Georgia. He retired after 23 years of services with the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Center in Jackson. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Griffin, where he attended the Bramlett Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife, Marian Joiner; children, Kay and Richard Penn of Griffin, Christie and Gary Powers of Richmond, Va., and Bill Pullin of Griffin; daughter-in-law, Kay Pullin of Griffin; grandchildren, Laurie and Sammy Toland, Joanna and Mike Errera, Kenneth and Shelby Pullin, Beth and Brandon Smith, Matthew Powers, Blake Powers, and Lucas Pullin; great-grandchildren, Taylor Toland, Abby Toland, Sara Grace Errera, Luke Pullin, Libby Pullin, Adison Smith, Frasier Smith and J.B.Smith; nephews, Dan Joiner of Salem, Va., and Glenn Joiner of California; and great-nephew, Nathaniel Joiner.
Funeral services for Rev. Dan Joiner will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of the Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A family interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour.
