Civil War Veteran Died at Soldiers' Home
Today
Harris L. Fish [HORACE L. FISH], a civil war veteran, died at the soldiers' home this morning at the
age of 83 years. He was a member of
Company K, 9th Vermont Infantry. The
deceased was a native of Vermont, being
born in Halifax, Oct. 30, 1840. He
enlisted September 12, 1864, being in
active service until the time of his
discharge on the 13th of June, 1865.
He has been at the home for the past ten
years, the last part of the period has
been spent mostly in his room due to the
frail condition of his health.
He was especially fond of wild flowers
and of poetry. When able he often went
into the field to gather his favorite
blossoms which he kept in his room at all
times. He was able to recite from
memory many poems and to give
quotations from many others.
The deceased is survived by one son,
Arthur L. Fish of Colrain, Mass.
The funeral will be held from the home
Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. John
L. Cole will officiate. The body will be
placed in the vault at Park Lawn
Cemetery.
