Billy was living in Albertville, when he was drafted 12 March 1968 into the US Army.
Arriving in Vietnam 27 August 1968, Billy was assigned to A Company, 1st Battalion, 11th Infantry, 1st Brigade, 5th Infantry Division, USARV. The battalion was participating in Operation Montana Mauler and operating in the vicinity of Hill 208 and 9 kilometers west northwest of the Cam Lo Village. Hostile forces launched a mortar attack against the battalion. Billy died as a result of multiple fragmentation wounds to the body from hostile mortar fire.
Survived by his wife, Bobbie Jean Duke, and his parents, Milton Franklin Sr and Edna Earl Duke, all of Route #3, Albertville, Alabama.
